Complaint bodies

ACT Civil and Administrative Tribunal
Under Part 12 of the Utilities Act 2000, the ACAT has jurisdiction to consider complaints made against energy and water utilities which are licensed to operate in the ACT. Complaints may be about hardship caused or likely to be caused by disconnection of supply, or may be about the misconduct or poor service of a utility - its customer contract, billing systems, network operations, or marketing behaviour.

Banking and Financial Services Ombudsman
A dispute resolution service dealing with disputes that individuals and small businesses have with their financial service providers.

Commonwealth Ombudsman
Investigates complaints from people who believe they have been treated unfairly or unreasonably by a Commonwealth Government department or agency, including the Australian Taxation Office, the Australian Federal Police and the Australian Defence Force. The Commonwealth Ombudsman is also the ACT Ombudsman.

Energy and Water Ombudsman New South Wales (EWON)
EWON investigates and resolves disputes between NSW electricity, gas and water customers and their providers.

Energy and Water Ombudsman Victoria (EWOV)
EWOV investigates and resolves disputes between Victorian electricity, gas and water customers and their providers.

Energy Industry Ombudsman SA (EIOSA)
EIOSA investigates and resolves disputes between South Australian electricity and gas customers and their providers.

Energy Ombudsman Tasmania (EOT)
EOT investigates and resolves disputes between Tasmanian energy customers and their providers.

Energy Ombudsman Western Australia
The Energy Ombudsman WA receives, investigates and facilitates the resolution of complaints from residential and small business customers in Western Australia about their electricity or gas company.

It's ok to complain
A joint initiative of the independent agencies responsible for handling complaints, listing various independent complaint agencies in Queensland and across Australia that will listen to you and investigate your complaint about government departments, local councils and private organisations.

Queensland Office of Fair Trading 
The Queensland Office of Fair Trading safeguards consumer rights and advises business and traders on fair ethical practice.

Queensland Ombudsman
The Queensland Ombudsman's Office is an independent complaints investigation agency. Its role is to make sure that Queensland's public agencies (State government departments and bodies, and local councils) act fairly and make the right decisions for Queenslanders.

Queensland Privacy Commissioner
The Queensland Privacy Commissioner provides information about the meaning and value of privacy and promotes best privacy practice.

Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman
A national scheme which handles consumers' complaints about their telephone company or internet service provider.
